![]() ![]() The study provides concrete examples of how the tool can be used to enhance tranquil qualities, particularly focusing on small green spaces in dense urban settings, involving the (simultaneous) reduction of unwanted sounds and enhancement of wanted sounds/effects. They are structured around three main categories: localisation of functions, reduction of unwanted sounds and introduction of wanted sounds. A total of 19 Soundscape Actions are described and discussed in the paper. The studies are based on observations in situ, supported by video documentation, field recordings and readings of sound pressure levels (SPL). ![]() An autoethnographic approach was used to conduct field studies in 88 gardens in Japan, the majority of which are located in urban areas with potential noise disturbance. The study focuses on the Japanese garden tradition, which is known for high preference ratings, tranquil qualities and consideration for sound and other sensory experiences. The present research aims to substantiate one of the available tools, Soundscape Actions, and thereby increase the understanding of soundscape design. How unsettling for all of these parents with young kids, and it seems the hotel didn't think it was an issue.Landscape architecture and urban design disciplines could benefit from soundscape thinking in order to enhance experiential qualities in their projects, though the available tools are not yet fully developed nor tested. To top it all off, there were 3 homeless men that were in the bush at the back of the parking lot, they came into the lobby and were approaching some of our team girls who are between 11-13 years old, when security was asked about what was being done about this they said ”they had no idea but that they believed it to be okay, no police were called” Thankfully, we had a friend who is a SWAT officer onshift nearby, he came by to check it out and it turns out that all of these men have warrants out for their arrest. I will never understand why hotels that choose to be tournament hotels don't catch on to put us in an actual block of rooms to lessen any potential complaints from other guests. ![]() The breakfast is terrible, eggs were like rubber. There was a language barrier and after a bit more of a civil conversation, they proceeded to tell us that we would be charged for a noise complaint charge because apparently we had four warnings, we were unaware of the first two or three. We tried to explain to the guards that our kids are young and we would not be leaving the hotel room door, but that they cannot go to sleep with us sitting in there. So we stood up, 10 minutes later we were told we needed to get out of the hallway and go to the lobby because it's a walkway. First they told us that we cannot sit quietly in the hall, just my husband and I at 7:45pm, we had to stand. Night two, we are putting our kids to bed and security wouldn't leave our floor. We tried to be respectful of other hotel guests by staying outside also because it was a gorgeous day, the staff told us we needed to go indoors to the lobby. During daylight hours (3:30-7:30pm) we were told to move locations, then we were then told to leave that area, several times. The amount of times that security had interactions with a group of grown adults, was insane. We went to this hotel as a team, after the hotel listed themselves as a ”preferred hotel for the tournament” Which is very confusing to me because they clearly do not want any families there as a group. Don't tell us one thing and do another, really? I just found she put a sour taste in our mouth from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. I checked the booking for the next night and the hotel was empty. She said ok but the maids kept knocking on our door and asked us to leave, when we called the front desk she changed her mind and said we had to be out at 11. The same woman was at checkout, we had asked for a 12 pm checkout as we were in a hockey tournament and our game was not until 4pm. Even when I told her I had a hearing impairment she did not come to see me at the glass. She stood in her office and behind a glass barrier. I tried to check in an hour early as my wife was not feeling well, she indicated no rooms were available. The only issue I had was with the older lady at the front desk. The breakfast was good for something quick to eat, the kids liked the cinnamon waffles. The room was standard, clean, bed was fine. The hotel is in a decent location, plenty of food options around. ![]()
